Interview by Jane Johnson of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library with Floyd "Chunk" Simmons. In this interview Simmons, a white man, talks about his early life in Charlotte, his enlistment in the 10th Mountain Division during World War II, his participation in sports including his time as an Olympian in the 1948 and 1952 games, and his acting career including his role in the movie South Pacific as well as on television. He touches on personal relationships, with his father mentioned as a big influence throughout his life. Simmons concludes the interview talking about his photography hobby and business, participation in the Senior Games, and his attitudes about aging and life.
