Description

A lecture by Dr. Charles Johnson, the first Black professor at Duke's Department of Medicine. Johnson discusses his early life in Alabama, his military service in the Air Force, and his time as a medical student at Howard University. He recounts coming to Durham and Lincoln Hospital, then working at Duke. Johnson candidly describes his philosophy of practicing medicine, including the importance of sensitivity to patients' cultural needs. Toward the end, Johnson fields questions from the audience.
